100. Strolling the Hispanic Walk of Fame

Picture

By Miguel Pérez

There are almost 100 Hispanic stars on the Hollywood Walk of fame. The problem is finding them among more than 2,600 stars embedded on a 15-block section of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street - especially since there are hundreds of people usually walking over them!

The stars, embedded on the sidewalks on both sides Hollywood and Vine, honor the superstars of American music, movies, television, radio and theater. And there are a good number of Hispanics among them. If they were all together, it would be enough for our own Hispanic Walk of Fame!

Administered by the Hollywood  Chamber of Commerce, the Walk of Fame consist dark gray terrazzo sidewalks sprinkled with huge, coral-pink terrazzo and brass-rimmed stars.

These stars on the ground, spaced at 6-foot intervals, draw millions of tourists to Hollywood every year, as people search for their idols and have their photos taken next to their stars.

Unfortunately, The Great Hispanic American History Tour only had time for a swift walk on Hollywood Boulevard. Frankly, I was looking for my queen, Celia Cruz, and I was lucky to find some of my other favorite entertainers along the way. Finding all of the Latinos there (see the list below) would take at least a couple of days.

So have you been there? Do you have photos? I need your help!

I thought that perhaps I could get some additional photos from one of those "royalty free stock photos" websites, but unfortunately, it turns out they are not free at all!

BTW, all of my photos on this website are free for you to copy and use as you please. My interest is to promote Hispanic heritage, not to profit from it.

I will keep looking for the so-called "free photos" on the internet, but I'm not very optimistic. So, I'm hoping my readers will help me with this project.

If you have a photo of the star for one of the people listed below, please send me a copy at hiddenhispanicheritage@gmail.com and I will add it to this page. And I will give you credit: "Photo by: Your Name"

Otherwise, I will have to go back to Hollywood! lol
As of November 19, 2021, there are 2,709 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. According to my research, 99 them are Hispanic:

Next stop:

The Great Hispanic American History Tour goes to Mission San Fernando Rey de España. (Was I allowed to sit there? lol)

This mission, in the Mission Hills district of Los Angeles and 17th among California's 21 missions, is the namesake of the nearby city of San Fernando and the San Fernando Valley.
