When you see a church bell hanging from a pastoral staff, ​you are on El Camino Real

In California, whenever you see a church bell hanging from a pastoral staff, you know you are on El Camino Real, the road that connected the 21 missions established by Spanish missionaries here in the 18th century.

​These are the most beautiful and significant road markers I have ever seen. Some of them were removed by irrational protesters during the time when people where fighting with statues a few years ago, but I’m glad to see that many are still standing. I have already seen five of them, so I think I’m on the right track!

En California, siempre que ves una campana de iglesia colgando de un bastón pastoral, sabes que estás en El Camino Real, el camino que conectaba las 21 misiones establecidas por los misioneros españoles aquí en el siglo 18.

Estos son los marcadores de carretera más bellos y significativos que he visto jamás. Algunos fueron derribados por manifestantes irrazonables durante las protestas contra las estatuas que tuvieron lugar hace unos años, pero me alegra ver que muchos siguen en pie. Ya he visto cinco, así que creo que voy por buen camino.
